Work Release
The Jail Ministry's mission in the Elkhart County Work Release Center is to provide hope and community based on God's steadfast love.
The Jail Ministry has the unique privilege of partnering with Elkhart County Community Corrections (Work Release). Work Release is a residential program that serves as an alternative to prison or jail. Chaplains are able to build upon relationships that began in jail and continue at Work Release. Residents searching for hope as they transition into society are introduced to God’s love through chaplains and volunteers who offer compassion and friendship.
- Work Release residents are invited to participate in programs coordinated by Jail Ministry staff. Some are weekly book clubs and Bible studies; others are special programs, such as art classes, storytelling groups, music groups, support groups, and spiritual retreats.
- On Sunday mornings, all Work Release residents are invited to take part in Holy Alliance. Holy Alliance is a gathering of individuals who encourage each other in their faith, sobriety and relationships. While this is primarily a ministry for people in Work Release, it is open to the public and visitors are welcome.
- The Jail Ministry helps to connect residents with licensed, professional therapists and will pay for the appointments when needed. We provide clothing for Work Release residents who need it, and we partner with Chain Reaction to give bikes to residents who need transportation to work.
- The Work Release Chaplain serves as a liaison between community partners and Work Release administration to help provide needed services for residents, such as mental health therapy, vocational rehab, and church community.
